One doesn't need a PCI bus just to lower processor overhead & in any case,
just because it's a PCI device doesn't mean it's bus master or DMA or
anything. For the record, I've got an intelligent ISA comms card here on my
desk which I'm going to evaluate soon that contains a co-processor to handle
all modem<>UART communications & transfer the result into memory by DMA.
Theoretically it should lower processor utilization and completely eliminate
errors. I'm hoping that this will smooth out quake2 a little.

I'll keep you posted.
