I have some sort of Lucent that usually connects at bout 50K. I have I connect at 24 and 28.8 K. That is a Bell South problem. When I get a slow connect I go back in and get a reaonable connect rate. I keep bugging them about this. Your modem is probably suffering from a bad firmware problem. I worked as a modem test engineer and know that a lot of the modems out here have have bad firmware which prevents them from connecting at higher speeds. I have an older Hayes V.34 which connects at 19.4 most of the time and at 24.K on a good day, even though it is supposed to support 30K connections. This is reality. I am happy to have found a Lucent internal modem which gives me close to 33K. Let me know if I can help you. Regards, John "Albert J.
