modem problem

I am running nt 4.0 sp5. i installed a pci modem and the instalation
process went fine. the problem is uninstalling the modem. I erase it from
the modem pgm in control panel, shut down and then remove the card from the
slot. when i reboot i get to the logon screen and logon, that is as far as
it goes, after a few minutes the logon screen dissapears.

the only way to get my system back up is to shutdown, and reinstall that
modem. then after the logon i get my desktop like there is no problem. if
i try to install another modem it does the same thing at the logon screen.

i restored the registry from a backup made the day before the modem was
installed but that did nothing.

thanks in advance for any help.

please respond via email also.

That is one mighty strange problem there i would seek some professional
advice...
That does not mean microsoft technical support either :(
The logon process in Nt is fairly complex (depending what your setup
is)...this MAY be the cause????????
If it gives you ANY error messages (doesn't sound like it is) post back and
i'll see what i can come up with.

have fun

Ben
