I just found a Dragon/32. Nice machine, good keyboard.
I noticed that there was a parallel port, but not a standard connector on
the
computer side. Can I make my own cable to connect to a standard centronics
printer ? Is it a straight ribbon cable ? Wich side is up, where is pin 1 ?
Are the joysticks compatible with those of the Tandy Coco ?
Jan.

--------------C0D99AF68B8367394A5B7629 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-15 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Jan, Joysticks are compatible. If you can find them, the Dragon joysticks were of a better quality than the Coco's. You can make your own printer cable. According to the Dragon manual, looking toward the connector, pins are numbered from the upper right starting with 1 through 19 in odd numbers, lower row numbered from the lower right starting with 2 through 20 in even numbers. Pin-out as follows: DRAGON CENTRONICS DRAGON CENTRONICS 1 - Print Strobe 1 2 - +5 Volts 19 3 - Data bit 0 2 4 - +5 Volts 20 5 - Data bit 1 3 6 - 0 Volts 21 7 - Data bit 2 4 8 - 0 Volts 22 9 - Data bit 3 5 10- 0 Volts 23 11- Data bit 4 6 12- 0 Volts 24 13- Data bit 5 7 14- 0 Volts 25 15- Data bit 6 8 16- 0 Volts 26 17- Data bit 7 9 18- 0 Volts 27 19- ACR 10 20- Busy 12 You can use an IDC type ribbon connector and 20 conductor ribbon cable. The ribbon will match a ribbon type Centronics connector except for pin 20, which will have to skip one wire slot to hit Centronics pin 12. If you have 64k RAM, (64 powers up like the 32), type EXEC <ENTER> will change the cursor from black to blue and you get 48k of usable RAM. Do this immediately after BOOTUP. If you have already used the EXEC command, it is EXEC 48000 <ENTER>. POKE &H3FF,1 redirects printer output to the serial port. POKE &H3FF,0 restores the parallel port. Note, to use the parallel port, your printer must be set to "automatic linefeed=on". The computer will also be able to use a composite video monitor. Looking at the connector from the back of the computer, the center pin is ground, left-most is video, right-most is audio, other two pins are unused. Hope this helps - George Jan Vanden Bossche wrote: > I just found a Dragon/32.
