Well there is a DOS based PPP program called Nettamer.  This will grab your
E-Mail and selected USENET groups automatically (Offline reading too) and hang
up your phone so as to minimise your connect time.  Of course this is the FULL
news group... Like all Internet programs it has some "Add Ons" one of which is
NTBINARY or some such.  Here's the link to the Nettamer page and you link from

The author of the add ons (tomburl) also wrote a lovely program that searchs
out the mailing lists I subscribe to and slices them off into psudo news
gropus (however I have to remember to reply via E-Mail only) and also a very
lovely utility that sliced off 10% of one news group today for me KILLFILE!
(P.S.  That't 10% it sliced off, into the bit bucket, clearly needed slicing
as it was all from a known internet spammer)  Works great on "make money"
spams too (add the word fast and that's the trigure)

Best of all... It will run (Well walk fast) on an 8088 if you have the XT
version (386 version runs on anything faster than an 80286, XT version runs on
8088, 8086, NEC V-20 80286 and yes. It will run on a palm top!! (PT version)
