FLV files -- what can be used to read them?

G'day mates,

I recently received a .FLV file from a mate, but I don't seem to have
anything installed to open it. I gather it's a Macromedia Flash
Video format file <http://filext.com/detaillist.php?extdetail=FLV>

Just wondering if anyone has a recommendation for a decent (and
cheap!) FLV player, please?

Cheers, Phred.

Yeah. 4 out of 5 so far this evening -- think I'd better give it a
go. :-)

Cheers, Phred.

http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html

It plays and converts between many formats including FLV and it's freeware.

Click download bottom of page and then the next page has the download
options.

Are there any known FLV players that have SPYWARE or other undesirable
features, and should be avoided at all costs?

As well as the FLV players suggested, I believe you'll find that VLC
<http://www.videolan.org/vlc/> will play it, as well as everything else in
the world.

Here I was reading through this thread wondering why no one had mentioned
VLC and then bingo, at the bottom of the thread it looks like the last man
in had been lying in wait for the commotion to die down and then lands the
killer punch. I too am a fan of VLC player... especially for FLV and MOV
files where I can't install quicktime players on the work PC.

VLC does it all.

VLC won't play my FLV (it plays everything else) files, it skips through the
file but won't show anything.

Maybe my install is corrupt, I thought FLV wasn't supported!

It shows it in the plugin and says its supported but all my VLC does is play
audio, if it does anything at all. No, it's not your install, I have
reinstalled it twice. I've since gotten the above mentioned flv player and
now it's not an issue.
