SalesLogix vs. Pivotal Relationship

Can anyone give me the low-down on these products. I suggest responses
should appear in the alt.business.misc newsgroup (I'm kinda fishing around
here since *nobody* is talking about sales force automation (SFA) in
usenet).
We are about to choose between two mid-tier SFA tools: Pivotal (scope is
little broad for our focus, impeccable credentials) and SalesLogix (1.0
product, claims to do much of what Pivotal already does - for half the
cost).
I'm concerned about claims of data structure modifications being
seamlessly accommodated during software upgrades. This is especially a
concern with SalesLogix where I'm also curious if there is a record of the
remote client synchronization working at all with 40 remote clients.
We boiled it down to these two with few criteria: Software cost less than
those top ten guys charge; has to run out-of-the-box; we have to manage
contacts against multiple sites, instead of company head offices; and we
want to manage activities against opportunities; oh, and we want to make
these modifications ourselves.

It kinda begs the question, given the newstroup, but why not GoldMine? Or is hype on a newborn baby more compelling than the working mature product? GoldMine didn't meet a basic shortlist requirement that I didn't mention
earlier: SQL server. You have to jump through too many hoops to tie
together a variety of systems running on a variety of non-SQL servers.
This is a basic requirement of all our new systems (you need a *really*
good reason to skip it).
Thanks for the suggestion though.

Vendor selection tomorrow (although we've been selecting for 2 years now).
Roll-out by Sept.

I would focus more on your overall technological underpinnings. I'm
working with a business-minded counterpart who would focus on your
feature set and user interface. Of course, we only have time for
products available for sale. I've already named who you would be up
against. You should be able to rank yourself in that context.
