Speed of Duron 960mhz and nFORCE help

Hi all I'm about to buy a MSI K7N420 PRO (MS-6373) M/B based on the nFORCE
chipset and and get a Duron 950mhz. Just wondering would the speed of games
be fine on this. I'm basicly looking at a computer to build for my cousins
in Europe so they can use the net which of course this will be fine but also
play some games. And i can't afford to spend too much.

Currently i have a P3 866mhz with a TNT 2 Ultra and i'm wondering would the
speed of games be similer to the Duron 950mhz.

Also would it be better off getting another m/b and adding my TNT2 Ultra
card to the Duron or just stick to the nForce GFX.

Thanks

The onboard graphics of the nForce board will be much faster than your
TNT2u. Also the Duron 950 will be quite a bit faster than the PIII 866.

You're making a good choice for a cheap system, but I would buy a Duron 1GHz
or higher to get the new core technology.

bye, Rick

P.S. Crossposting to only one or two newsgroups would have been sufficient
to get a response.

Taking a moment from the Fredricks catalog, "Lube Saveski" <saveski@iprimus.com.au> spake thusly

I strongly advise you to spend a bit more (maybe $40-50), and get an XP 1500+.

It will be MUCH faster than that Duron, especially in games.

The Duron would be a bit faster, but your limiting factor at present is probably
your video card.

With the GeForce4 line out, the GeForce 2 and 3 series have dropped a lot.
A GeForce2 TI is under $100, and would probably triple your frame rate in most
popular games.

The built-in video on that MB will at least double your frame rate,
and will probably be fine for you for a while.

An Athlon XP1800+ is only about $100 or so, so I don't see
the point of buying a Duron(especially one under 1 ghz with
the old Spitfire core) unless one just wants to do word processing
and surf the net.

A Duron 950 would probably be a major bottleneck for it though,
while an Athlon XP1800+ would be a much better match? Don't
forget to use DDR ram.
