Right about 7 years I build a Computer from nothing it was a Pentium 166mhz
then I upgraded to a 233mhz. Now I have a Celeron 600mhz running all my old
parts and it works well but now I find it slow compared to other machines I
used.

I want to know what I can upgrade to get the full speed it needs to get
ahead with the computer age. I was thinking of a 1ghz since prices are
droping or should I wait and get a P4 1.5 ghz and go with that.

Or can I overclock my 600mhz to at least 1ghz or am I dreaming ??

This is what i have in my machine to give you a idea.

600mhz Celeron
48x CD Rom
HP 9100 CD Writer
2x 1.44mb Floppy Drives
20Gb Hard Drive (Seagate) 7200rpm
8mb Premedia 2 Graphics Card (AGP)
ATX Abit 133mhz Motherboard
Sound Card (Basic) (PCI)
56k Modem (ISA)

I rather stuck to Intel.

I just use my computer home use for Games and Internet stuff.

The best thing you could do to it would be to upgrade the video card.
As a minimum I'd suggest a Geforce2 MX. Your CPU should run most games
fine with a decent vid card. You might be able to O/C the CPU up to 900
if you're lucky (with a good heatsink etc), but anything more than that
is very unlikely. You haven't mentioned how much RAM you have - but any
less than 128mb would slow you down a bit in Win98.

Huu !

An abit 133 MHz motherboard ! and you run 600 with your Celeron !

This is some of the most obvious oc tasks. Especially the celeron 600
is well suited to jump to 100 MHz frontbus, since 900 MHz is modest
and will work for almost everybody.

http://www.overclockers.com

see cpu-database

then select celeron 600 for an Intel cpu and Go.

9x112 is also possible with per example a PAL 6035 air cooler and 1.85
volt.

Most people over 1050 don't use air cooling, but peltier, etc.

best regards

John

Well since you want to stick to intel you can always buy the 1GHz PIII as
long as your mobo supports it. Overclocking the Celeron to 1GHz is beyond
anyones dreams, not only yours :-) (sorry to say it this way but its the
truth) provided that the Celeron has a multiplier lock so the only thing you
can do is raise the fsb to 100 so you will get at most 900 MHz but i don't
know how stable. In the unfortunate case that your mobo doesn't support the
1Gz PIII then you should change your mobo too. A faster vga card would also
help your system's speed and a 128mb dimm as well. I would recommend the ati
radeon 64mb vivo. Note that if you change motherboard you may have to change
modem too since few new mobos come with ISA anymore. I hope i helped. Good
luck.
