AOPEN AX3S mobo ---- 2x64 meg RAM=128 meg,, but 3x64meg RAM=64meg

I have just put together a Celeron700/AOPEN AX3S system.

I initially thought that the 2x64 meg PC133 RAM sticks (PQI brand) that I
had purchased were dead - so I went out and bought another 1x64 meg stick of
a different brand.(Hyundai)

Now I realise that the original 2x64 sticks were OK after all (finger
trouble on my part -- blush, blush!!!) and they work fine. They are
recognised by the bios as a total of 128Meg.

But when I put the third (Hyundai) stick in the third slot, the BIOS only
recognises 64Meg total. I know that this third stick is OK ---so?????

Any advice please?

Thanks

Is the 3rd DIMM the same spec otherwise? CAS? ECC or not? Have you tried
putting it in a different slot?

Another thing is that the Intel i815e chipset can only recognise four
"lines" of ram, ie you could have four single sided ram sticks, two double
sided - not sure about uneven, ie one double, two single.. :)

btw, what I mean by single side is there's (I think) eight chips on one side
of the ram stick, double side = eight chips on *both* sides.

This is a documented "feature".. :)

Could be why your third stick isn't being recognised.

hth,

kenco.
