Hi all;

I am looking to get a new system, here are the parts I have made up my
mind to get;

 CASE-V1000C - THERMALTAKE Xaser III Steel Case Blue
 Antec TruePower TrueControl 550W ATX PSU
 Gigacube ATI 9800 128MB DDR
 ABIT NF7-S v2.0

For gaming, whats the best cpu and memory to get? Would like at least
1 to 2gig of ram.

FYI and for laughs my current system is;

generic case
generic 230v psu
geforce4 mx440 64mb ddr
msi k7t turbo 2
two 80gb hdds (winxp/redhat 8)
Athlon xp 2400+ running at 1990mhz
generic sdram 3 x 512mb sticks, total 1.5gb

AMD appears to lead in the games benchmarks. www.tomshardware.com
Get name brand memory

Hi,
it looks like you are *underclocking* your 2400+, it should be running at
2GHz default? Maybe if you overclocked that chip to 2.2GHz you wouldn't
need a new one. Also what speed is your memory (PC2100, PC2700, PC3200?).
Did you consider *re-using* some of your old parts or do you want to create
a new PC from scratch?

I built a new system about two months ago and it works very well. . .

The ABIT NF7-S v2.0 motherboard is a socket A, amd cpu board. I was
looking for cpu speed suggestions and brand pc? memory type....

Ie; I have read a lot about the barton 2500+ cpu. I am leaning towards
2 X 512Mb, but pc what (pc3200/pc3500/pc3700/pc4000/...?) I want cl 2
ratings...

Hi; I really have not played with it too much, fiddling with
fuzzylogic it once or twice went to 2300 (from memory). But the temps
were over 60 C.

The main reason I have choosen to go for a new system is just because.
lol. Will problably keep the old one for a while.

I found this on the web;

CPU AMD K7 Athlon XP 3000+ Barton 333MHz FSB, Retail $418

Well you hit the nail on the head, that was basicly what I am after,
what speed (PC2100, PC2700, PC3200?) and brand to get...?

CPU; Barton XP2500+; they overclock easily to 3200+ speed and up.  Memory;
get TwinMos, Buffalo Tech, PC3200 at least for operation at 200 MHz FSB. If
you want to get the FSB as high as possible, get PC3500 or PC3700. All will
work fine; depends on how much you want to spend. PC3200 would be the
minimum speed.

AMD Barton core.
MB: Asus A7N8X deluxe
This board will let you overclock by adjusting in the CMOS setup
Corsair TwinX memory. Make sure it is CAS 2. This memory is tested in
pairs in the above motherboard.
Water cooling. It's quieter. Thermaltake Aquarius 2 is cheap and
quiet, and cools okaextreme performance, you will need better cooling.

That system isn't cheap, but the money you save on overclocking will
help pay for other parts
