3D and Modem problem

I am running
Win ME
AMD Duron 750
AOpen AK33 Motherboard
128mb PC100 Ram
3D Blaster TNT 2 Ultra
Conexant HCF V90 56K Data Fax RTAD PCI Modem

I have reciently upgraded my motherboard and processer and now have trouble
playing online games
My display adapter is currently sharing an IRQ (11) with Conexant PCI Modem
Enumerator. when I try to play Everquest after a couple of minutes my screen
locksup and I have to reset.
My question is is this the cause and if so how do I stop these 2 devices
sharing IRQs? I have not had any trouble with any other games.

Please help me before my wife divorces me for ruining her game!

M8,

Chuck that Conextant in the bin and go and buy a decent external
modem........If you can't afford it then fair enough but this will
save you much heartache.....45 to 50 quid is not a lot for peace and
quiet:) And a lot cheaper than divorce:)

Try placing the video card on IRQ 10. Go to this URL to see my settings.
Look at the PnP/PCI Config section on the lower right.

I am not sure but i believe that your 3d blaster doesn't use bus mastering .
In your bios set assign IRQ to VGA to : disabled or no.
That way your IRQ 11 will be free for your winmodem.

The problem is NOT sharing IRQ's. My TNT2 Ultra used to share IRQ's with my
SBLive!Value, and it didn't cause any problems. However, I recieved slighty
(very slightly) better performance once I got it its own IRQ. I don't know
how to do this in BIOS or windows, but all I did was switch all of my PCI
cards down one slot, so the slot right next to the AGP is empty (since they
share IRQ's).

I think that the problem may not be with my modem, I have now moved it down
a slot and the 3d card has its own IRQ, my computer still crashes, and it
also crashes with most games not just everquest as I first thought. I see
that there seems to be a few people posting messages about AMD's and TNT2
graphic cards locking up. Also I am using a 250W power supply, someone told
me I should get a more powerful one is this true?

No, you don't need a new power supply. 250W is plenty for almost any system,
unless you're builing a server, or a huge workstation or something. Other
than that, I don't know the solution. If you have the latest drivers and
everything, I don't know what the problem could be. Sorry, Good Luck.

250W isnt enough for my systems which have 2x HDD's 2X CDroms. Depends on
whether you are powering your monitor from the case too.

I highly doubt this person needs more than 250 Watts, which seems to be good
for almost any machine. I've read ppl running Athlon 1ghz and such with 230W
PS, though I would recommend something higher. I have a 300W for 3 CD-ROM
drives (don't even know why i have all them, CD-ROM, DVD, CD-RW) and 1 20GB
HDD, P3 500, 3 fans, and I've never even thought about a power issue. I
don't think many moniters are powered via the computer anymore. Only my
really old Pentium 233 did this, and I've never seen any others since.
