I have this white box outside my house, it used to supply us with a telephone line (and a trial of cable tv) , but the cable company apart from being cheaper than BT (UK) was next to useless, so we stopped using them. The white box still lives on. In the days when we had cable I remember that the cable tv box was made by a company called scientific-atlantic, which I happened to notice on www.cablemodems.com that they also make cable modems. Can I simply buy a cable modem, attach to the white box and a net card in my pc, and get the internet for free without involving any dodgy cable companies. Could I use any old cable modem, they all seem to have different specs. Thanks to anyone who knows.
