Thanks to the two guys who replied. Had phone company check line; have surge protector on phone line. Have put in two different modems by different companies in last month. They work for two weeks fine with no problems, then I get up boot the machine and the modem is dead. No response to ANY command. Called tech support; they don't seem to know, except they say computer is no longer recognizing modem. Played with port and IRQ settings ad infinitum. Something appears to be killing the modem. Why would it work fine for two weeks and then die after booting?
