I bought a new model 3 Com US Robotics 56K Voice Faxmodem (external) in the UK on Saturday. (Sealed box etc.) I was horrified to find that the power supply plug does not fit the socket in the modem. The voltage of the power supply also seems high for a modem at 18v (USR part no. SB2). Can anyone confirm if this is the correct voltage for this modem? I tried it with a different plug, but the modem gets very HOT? The very poor "User Guide" does not list the voltage, just some blurb about "Safety (Low Voltage Directive)". I would have thought UK law required the voltage to be stated.... otherwise someone may connect to the mains? Because this is one of the first ITU V.90 standard modems to go on sale, are the modem manufacturers adopting the same practice as the software manufactures and releasing products that are not ready for release. Do they have the correct power supply? Good job I still have my trusty Motorola 28.8. The sad part is that I could have bought a Motorola 56K for Fifty Pounds cheaper than the USR and guess what the Motorola plug fits the USR?.... lower voltage though? 9V Sean B
