It is an awesome time to build or upgrade a PC. I remember paying $200 for
256K in my Amiga...and I just got another 64mb PC100 RAM for $77! But in
another 10 years we will certainly laugh at how much we paid for things
today...

Advice/suggestion to all: I live by a Fry's (Portland, OR) and I used to
purchase
a lot of stuff there...but there is a local shop (ENU) that has a 1 year
warantee on everything they sell. No matter what the manufacturers warantee
is, if it dies they will take it back within one year and give you another.

It was awesome when my Abit motherboard died after 10 months. Just went in
with my reciept and swapped it out. Joy!

My techmedia monitor and JTS hard drive purchased from Fry's
both died...the 17" monitor cost me $32 to ship to techmedia for
replacement. The
JTS hard drive was returned to JTS SEVEN WEEKS AGO and they still have yet
to
ship my replacement. (today they promise.) Not that this is to be a slam
against JTS,
they have enough problems right now. The POINT is had I purchased my
monitor
or hard drive at a shop with good return policies, the couple bucks extra
would have been more than worth it.

To those of you who say, "dang, dude, you have a lotta stuff die" I have to
tell you I have
three computers which are used a LOT. None of the real namebrand stuff has
given
me any problems (NEC, HP, Intel, AMD, Maxtor, WD, Diamond, etc etc etc.)
Its all been the stuff I purchased because it was cheap.
