Are we paying for it in quality, tho? 10 months ago I installed a new,
very cost effective 3 gig drive in my aging PC (now in its 7th year awaiting
a P2B/PII333). The previous drive worked fine for 6 years. This one croacked
on me today....

The P2B I'm building has an 8.4 gig drive which cost as much as my 3 gig
almost a year ago, which cost as much as my 200MB seven years ago, which
cost as a Seagate ST-225 ten years ago... The 225 and the 200MB work fine,
the new one coughed up its cookies w/ a dozen bad sectors and failed vendor
diagnostic.  Yuk.
