Check the BIOS. Set it to auto detect the drives first of all. If you only
the burner and a harddrive, make the HDD the master on the first IDE channel
and the CDRW the master on the second IDE channel. If you have more drives,
set the harddrive with the OS on it to master, any other HDD to slave, and
the optical drives on the other channel as master and slave.
