For a start U don't tell us what the "Other Machine" is. It could be that the hard drive was formatted as NTFS or as a Linux Partition, or OS2... who knows? Make it easy on yourself. Get the 98 boot disk, bootup the PC, and run fdisk. Then U will know what the hard disk is partitioned as. Keep in mind that Win98 can only see Fat and Fat32 partitions. Good luck Col "case" <case.sinclair@imvs.sa.gov.au> wrote in message news:3ce0549d$1@duster.adelaide.on.net... > Hello all, > I am having difficulty installing a second hard drive into my Win98 SE PC > that was > used in another machine. > I installed the drive using a 5.5 inch bay removable rack that I bought so > it could be easily removed. > I installed the drive and windows seemed to recognise it and asked me to > reboot due to configuration of new hardware, however now when booted it > doesn't show up as part of the system in My computer. > > Do I need to use bios settings to let the system know what I have installed, > or should it have automatically detect it? > > Any help would be greatly appreciated, as there are many pages dealing with > installing and formatting a drive, but apparently none dealing with > installing without formatting on the web. > > hope someone can help. > > thanks > Case > > > >
