I had similar problems a couple of years ago at a client of mine i am sure
it is either down to having spanning tree protocol turned on on your network
switches commonly turned on by default on cisco switches or you have to set
the duplexing and port speed options manually for the particular ports you
are working with on your switch

ie instead of Auto:Auto it should read Full:100

Hope this makes sense

It is generally good practice to turn off spanning tree protocol on switches
when dealing with appletalk or appletalk over IP don't ask me why i have
solved that many network problems by simply doing this

Good luck and post results i am new here and I would like to know if my
advice is useful
