Actually, there are probably quite a few linux users who use Dev-C++
because it is a convenient implementation of g++ on an MS-Windows
platform and easier to use and install than most mingwin distributions.

I use gcc by preference on linux but will suffer MS-Windows programming
where necessity dictates and Dev-C++ can be a useful survival tool in
such situations. The default settings are pretty good for most things
and it has a bunch of template programs to give you an "instant start".
Unfortunately it doesn't have a lot of flexibility so if you want fancy
builds and special options then you probably want to go back to
good old gnu make. Most C programs will compile under a C++ compiler
if you are willing to tweak the source a little or you may have to
rewrite small parts of the program to make it work with MS-Windows.
