I suspect that you have never seen Wirth's pascal lined up beside delphi
or even TP 7 ! ;)

There is no comparison, the semantics and syntax are basicly the same
but the power and strengths are miles apart

The original pascal did not even have a string type.

The original pascal was very much a teaching tool, it was accidently the
embryo for one of the most highly disciplined and well structured
languages.

I started programing in Assembler, then BBC BASIC ( a super language in
its own right) I have since had varying exposure to Modular 2, Fortran,
LISP, C, C++, COBOL, VB, GPSSH, Simula, etc..... and Pascal and Delphi

A fairly reputable fellow I knew who made money from designing and
implementing big systems, said that for speed and ease of development he
would use C or C++ ( as appropriate) but if a project was to be
maintained and upgraded by more than just the designer, he would ALLWAYS
use pascal.

BTW he had never used a GOTO ;)

I agree with these sentiments entirely

Not sure about this one! ;)
