basic question about turbo debugger

Well, here's a simple one (probably):

I'm using Borland's free compiler (5.5)...it works fine. I'm at the point
now where I want to use a debugger to look at and fix my programs.
Unfortunately, the free turbo debugger seems only to work when you run it
from windows, this is really bad when you've got a program that only runs at
a DOS prompt. I tried to run the debugger at a DOS prompt and it kills the
system of course. My question is: Is there a debugger that works with simple
DOS type programs?

thanks,

Ken

As I understand it, td32 is a Windows console program, that runs fine
from the Win95/98 command prompt. I used it with both real Windows
programs and with Windows console programs.
What exactly do you mean by "that only runs at a DOS prompt"? A DOS
box in Windows, or a standalone DOS without Windows?
What exactly do you mean by "kills the system".

Are you using an old Turbo debugger, or the new td32.exe ?

This is a newgroup for standard C/C++ programming. We do not deal with
compiler specific problems. There are quite a few borland newsgroups
available. Try any of them.

insight from cygnus

windows version
www.bloodshed.net/dev
http://members.nbci.com/noicys/devcpp/insight_win32.zip
http://sourceware.cygnus.com/insight/

your other option is to get a port of gcc
and use gdb gnu debug (don't install insight to same directory as it
overwrites it)
