Q: MP3 Files in VB?

Hello,

Is it possible to play Mpeg2 Layer 3 files (Mp3) files in a Visual Basic 5.0
project? I have seen Dynamic Link Libraries that were able to do this in
some other programs, but I don't know the commands to use this DLL. Does
somebody know a way to play the MP3 files?

Please post your answers to this newsgroup and send them to
kzomers@hotmail.com, thanks.

Help would of course be greatly appreciated!

Kind regards,

Koen

Try below this address:
http://xaudio.com (or www.xaudio...? Just try)
There is a free SDK for many platforms and tools.

Or you could use the activemovie control...

ActiveMovie1.FileName = "AiE.mp3"
ActiveMovie1.Run

Agreed... you will find, if you shell out the money for these components,
that some will most likely simply be giving you a shrinkwrap method of
calling the activemovie control that microsoft provides to you already.

Hi,

I read on the DirectX page that they replaced the ActiveMontrol (AM) with
the MediaPlayer (MP) control.

We no longer hear about the AM control and the development efforts seem to
have shifted to the MP (6.2 is in public beta now).

Should we stop using the AM control and replace it with the MP control?

Regards,
Raymond

Yes, you will notice that the MediaPlayer control supports the MP3 format...
The Active Movie control supported this format, but it was not released
officially as having the MP3 support (to my knowledge) by Microsoft even
though it did support it. Future development to progress with the standards
probably should be focused toward the MediaPlayer rather than the Active
Movie control even though both should work.

but that raises more, for AM the end-user would have to have the AM on their
system!
And with the MP they would also require the Media Player! If you want a package
that would work
no matter what, inly requiring DX3 or above you would have the actual MP3
decoder, and there are about 4 or so of these
available for less than $100, one is even $20!! And these are real-time
decoders, i use one, Dialog-Medien.
