Anyone have any ideas why my BE6II wont detect a new HDD (ATA100) when connected to ATA port . When the HPT66 Blue set up screen boots up it wont see any drive yet if I boot into Win98 it will see drive there but not Assign it a drive letter and if I boot into win2k it will lock up I have it set up as follows: HDD set as Master 80Pin cable connected as follows Blue-Mobo Black-HDD Grey-empty I have tried the following 1. Setting HDD to slave and altering connectors on 80Pin cable 2. Connecting HDD as IDE and it detects in BIOS correctly 3. Altering 80pin cable to connect as slave when drive says master and vice versa 4. Tried entering HPT settings but CTRLH to ALT H whichever it is does nothing JiZZiuM

Is this an IBM drive? If so, you might try upgrading to the beta W2K drivers (1.28) and HPT366 bios (1.28), as there are issues with IBM UDMA100 drives and Highpoint. Also, try using IBM's Feature Tool to throttle the drive down to UDMA4. If not IBM, I don't have a clue. Try this : Partiton and format the drive on a regular IDE channel , then move it to the hpt controller and jumper the drives as cable select. If it's a wd drive and it's alone on a cable , jumper it as single. I have a BE6 and IBN 46.1 Gb drive. How do I update the bios - the highpoint refers to the bios type yet I can't identify that on the board. Which bios? You have two on the mobo: System and Highpoint controller. You might consider upgrading to the latest system bios, downloadable from the Abit website. In my earlier post, I was referring to the HPT366 drivers and bios. When the blue Highpoint screen pops up after post, look at the top for the bios version. Is your drive running well? If not, you'll need to determine what bios version has the appropriate HPT366 bios imbedded in it, and I'm not sure what that is for a BE6. For the BE6-II, v1.28 fixes W2K/IBM/HPT366 ills, and 1.26 for Win98/IBM/HPT366--which is probably the same for the BE6. In addition, get the corresponding W2K or W98 drivers. These are beta drivers and take some searching to find on Abit's website. You'll have to refer to overseas FTP sites to find them, though some stateside third-party sites have them. Thanks I have an IBM ATA66 and ATA 100 as masters on each ATA66 channel on a be6-II - Win2k would lock totally during checkdisk in boot. Originally thought it was overclocked processor, but with new bios and drivers now works OK "Robert Davis" <iclick@home.com> wrote in message news:O5jl6.288252$ge4.98280952@news2.rdc2.tx.home.com... > Is this an IBM drive? You stupid brain-dead twit -- this has nothing to do with aus.consumers. If you can manage it with frying your brains, try a computer group.
