I have a liteon 52x24x52 speed model LTR-52246S Whenever I burn cdr media it never allows me to choose 52x even though 52x media is installed. when burning audio and cd images from hard disk the maximum speed 16x is allowable. when burning other types of media it seems to only allow 8x less than the medias rated speed. I am using laser CD-R Premium Gold 700mb 80min 52x media so I am not sure what has happened. Should I try different media? If so what do people recommend?

Update your drive's firmware, and yes you definitely need better media. Get some Maxell 48x or TDK 52x media. If so what do people recommend? Modern drives often have a firmware table of recognized medium and maximum burn speeds. For media they do not recognize, they have a default value, often 16x. If you're using BrandX, that may explain what you're seeing. Try media recommended by the driev manufacturer, then major brands, then see what will deliver the quality, speed and price you want. If so what do people recommend? What burning software are you using? See if there is an update available for it... Regards Sunil
