Coolscan IV-ED or 4000 ED

I have sold my trusty HP-S20 one hour ago. (1 minute silence please)
Now I can buy a new Coolscan!! Hurray.

Question is which one? I have read all the specs and know the "on-paper"
differences and also the price difference.

The largest I want to print is A3 and using QImage Pro, a 3MPix digital
camera image gave good results, so the biggest questions I have are:

1) If both scanners are to scan at 2900 dpi will the 4000ED by noticably
quicker?
2) Can Ed Hamrick's VueScan do multi scans on the IV-ED?
3) Is the slightly greater contrast range of the 4000 noticable?

For this comparison, I am NOT interested in the:
a) max resolution difference
b) the price (well, at least not much)
c) the roll film option for the 4000

Any other differences I hadn't touched on?

BTW the scanner will be installed on Win2000 on a 700MHz Athlon.

Thanks for your comments....

I'm using a DELL xps700r PIII 700mhz with 768kb RAM on Windows 2000
pro. And the scanner locks up my computer everytime I turn it on. I
just installed it last week. It worked fine. Made about 50 (beautiful)
scans. Now, when I turn on the scanner, it totally locks up. I called
Nikon and they said that I've got too many devices in my box on IRQ9.
W2k manages IRQs through 9. So, I'm stumped and their not very
helpful. Anybody out there with an idea.

David
