Problem running Quake 3 Arena Demo on Radeon 9000 on Windows NT

Hi everybody,

can somebody help me out? I googled a lot but found no solution.

PROBLEM:

I want to run Quake 3 Arena Demo on Windows NT.
I have a Radon 9000 Atlantis made by Sapphire (sapphiretech.com).

MORE INFORMATION:

It seems that the OpenGL driver does not work properly.
Other applications like Moray (www.stmuc.com/moray), when used in OpenGL mode,
don't work too.

Q3A simply displays a black screen. I am able to use the mouse and
hear the intro sound, so the game is functional but simply does not
display anything.

Surprisingly, the OpenGL Screensavers that come with WinNT, work.

Here are some of my installed DLL versions:

ati2mtag.sys 4.3.4034
ati2dvag.dll 4.3.4034
opengl32.dll 4.00 (size is 684 KB, apparently delievered with WinNT 4 Workstation)

Control Panel/Display/ATI Options says
CATALYST Version 02.2
2D Version 4.3.4034
Packaging Version 7.76-020815b-005590C-ATI

HELP REQUEST:

Apparently, this is a OpenGL Driver problem with the ATI Radeon 9000 chip.
Q3A cooperates well (= runs properly) with my hardware on WinXP, Win95, Win98.
Please don't ask me to refrain from using NT - I just want to make Q3A run
on WinNT since it is said to be possible.

Anyone who succeeded in doing that?

Any help is appreciated, thank you.

Roger

Many things are said to be possible.
On W2K/XP it will work, NT4 nope. Face it.

Maybe your card is using the wrong default monitor in ATI's config under NT?
Is there an option under display properties? Do other OpenGL games work?

This used to happen to me with my old Rage 128 Pro. The drivers that were
on the CD that came with it just gave blank screens in openGL games like
Q3. The solution for me was to download some new drivers. That's probably
not much help to you, though. ;-)

Correction:

The OpenGL WinNT Screensavers do *not* work.
I remembered that wrong.

Please, has anybody made OpenGL run on WinNT
using a Sapphire Radeon 9000 Atlantis?

Hi there,
dunno if this is anything to do with it but just try and remove
(rename) your dll called something like opengl32.dll
I just upgraded from an old 3dfx card to a radeon 9700 and could only run in
software mode, running glquake gave me some glide error but ditching the
opengl32.dll worked for me.

this makes all OpenGL applications (including Quake3) yield an error
message.

just to let you know:

Sapphire Support recommended to me
downloading driver version 7.80, but
they did not read my email properly:
That driver is *not* available for WinNT.
Argh....
Problem still unsolved
