Hi all,

Can anyone recommend what and where to find the most
comfortable and functional office leather seat for PC? conceived
for someone staying long hours in front of a computer ... I am
tired of going to all shops here in Switzerland and the best
seat I have found costs about 1800USD. For that price I
guess I can get a few in US and have all them sent to me?

TIA,
Best Regards,
Giovanni

Which do you want, comfortable and functional, or leather? The two don't
necessarily go together and some of the best chairs out there are made with
special fabrics.

Depends on what you want. Don't buy something cheap, the third time a cheap
chair broke on me I said to Hell with it and called Herman Miller.

Most comfortable chair I've ever sat in for any length of time is a classic,
designed by Eero Saarinen back in the '50s.
Executive chair> is one source. You can also find them on ebay sometimes
for very attractive prices--I have two in IBM blue (official IBM blue--they
came with IBM inventory tags on them) that I got for 50 bucks a while back.
40 years old and still as good as new other than a few scratches on the
chrome and the caster wheels looking a bit grubby.

If you go for one of these make _sure_ it's from Knoll and not a knock-off.

The Hermann Miller Aeron I find to be quite comfortable to sit in but if I
don't have it adjusted right (one of the disadvantages of a chair with a
zillion adjustments) then I get back pain, not while I'm sitting but when I
get up. Note that there are three sizes and if you get the wrong one it
can make you right miserable right quick. Not leather though, Hermann
Miller developed a special fabric for it.

I used to have an Ergon however it was pieced together from items damaged in
shipping by the place I got it and the base died young--new from Hermann
Miller it would be another good bet and less pricey than the Aeron--if I'd
realized at the time how good HM was about servicing what they sell I'd
have had them put a new base on it. Very comfortable chair, one of the
first successful attempts at ergonomic furniture design. Again not leather
though. After the Ergon died (even with the bad base it lasted me more
than 10 years) I tried various $200 or so chairs from office supply stores
and they all died in a year or two.

Hi Clarke!

Many thanks for your advice!

I found in that very same web site one that really caught my eye :P
impressive the "awarded "Best Overall" by Wall Street Journal".

http://www.officedesigns.com/product-exec/product_id/7/Leap+Chair+in+Leather

Looks pretty much like the 1800.-USD one that I found here
in Zurich but for almost 20% less ... that's something :P I was
calling them to see if I could get it shipped here.

Many thanks once more!

Best Regards,
Giovanni

I know what you mean ... I got this transparent one over here:

it is a pain ... no matter how cool my Video Card and Sound System
is like when the Chair is horribly uncomfortable :)

To be honest I really prefer modern designs like the one I found in
the website you sent.

That's a Steelcase. I've never sat in one but they have a good reputation
and Steelcase is certainly a quality manufacturer. You can see their
product line at
<http://www.steelcase.com/na/task_work_chairs_products.aspx?f=10269>.

If you're in that price range you should also be looking at Herman Miller

and

and Knoll <http://www.knoll.com/products/productline_7.jsp>.

I have a Herman Miller chair which is probabably the very best office chair
available. If money's no object buy a new one , if not look for one on the
second hand market. You won't regret it. See this link for a
picture.http://www.aeronchair.co.uk/
