Last Sunday I bought a Creative GeForce 2 GTS 32mb card for my Pentium III 800EB Abit BE6-II Rev 2 PC. Since that time I have had nothing but problems from midweek onwards. Firstly sometimes the computer (on boot) will display multicolored garbage text which means its impossible to do anything in Windows/Bios etc...othertimes the PC will not detect a graphics card is even in the PC and I will get a beep on starting up the PC. Only a hard reboot will correct the problem. I have checked to make sure that the card is in the AGP slot ok and my G400 works perfectly in the PC...is this the problem I have heard about Creative GeForce 2 cards having with various ABIT motherboards or do I have a faulty GeForce 2 Card (either way I guess it's going back tomorrow) Cheers -- Byron Hinson ActiveWin: http://www.activewin.com ActiveXBox: http://www.activexbox.com

Byron, try reseating the card. I know you think it's properly seated but do it anyway. Then go into your system bios setup and increase the voltage to your AGP slot to 3.5v. Last thing, check the specs for your power supply. If it's less than 250 or 300W you may need to upgrade it. If it makes any difference the GeForce 2 bios is 2.15.4.01.12 Are there any newer ones around that fix problems with various motherboards? -- Byron Hinson ActiveWin: http://www.activewin.com ActiveXBox: http://www.activexbox.com "Frank" <nospam@mindspring.com> wrote in message news:95i0mo$ec$1@nntp9.atl.mindspring.net... > Byron, try reseating the card. I don't know about the bios version, if your BE6-II was made prior to 07/00 then a video bios update won't help. Have you tried reseating the card and not screwing it down? On some mobo/case combinations the AGP card will rise very slightly when it's screwed in. If that doesn't work I'm out of ideas, except to try another card (or motherboard). Of course, the minute you mentioned a Softmenu-III board, the problem was obvious :( Call Abit and RMA the board. it's defective--the problem is an incompatiblity with the PWM voltage regulator and Geforce2 boards. This was eventually acknowledged by Abit, and the newest revision BE6-2 and BF6 (i believe, all boards made AFTER July '00) have fixed this problem. Hi! Don't change your video card because it's not that. There are some problems with newer video cards and Abit Softmenu III mainboards made prior July 2000. I have the same problem like you but with a BF-6 and a Leadtek GF2 GTS 32 mb. It apears there is a capacitor on the Abit board (C49) that is a troublemaker. It's been said that if you replace this C49 with a 0.1 uF SMT capacitor everything will work fine. No one has done this though. Try sending a mail to Abit and see what they tell you. My advice is to go for a new mainboard. Asus or MSI sound nice. Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/
