hi

i'm looking for some advice on buying a webcam. I basically want a webcam to
be pointing out of my window. I need to record and image at around 640x480
resolution. It needs to work at night and during the day.

cheers

The Logitech webcams are good. Some people have different opinons.
So my suggestion to you is to go to a site like pcworld.com or
pcmag.com and do some resarch, then get the one u like the best.

I bought an IO Networks Watchport V which is actually a 3Com Home Connect
cam. They bought the rights for this camera from 3 Com and are selling them
again for $99 plus shipping. You can contact Roxanne Stillman at
roxannes@ionetworks.com or 512-306-0939 to order one directly from the her
at the company. Saved me a little bit on shipping this way. This company
is marketing these cams at the surveillance field and come with a 5 year
warranty. They also are rated 1 lux light sensitivity and I believe it.
Mine is incredible in a dark room. It makes my room look well lit even
where there's no light in here except for my monitor's light. It can see
stuff on the wall across the room that I can't with the naked eye. It's
that good. http://www.ionetworks.com/products/watchportv.html is the link
to this cam at their website and be sure to check out the pdf file with the
technical specifications. This company is selling this cam cheaper than
when 3Com was selling them. As far as that goes, you can buy one of these
cheaper than you can for a new 3 Com off Ebay. Mine has 3Com on the front
and an IO Networks sticker on the top.

Hello Ben,

use a camera with a CCD sensor instead of a camera with CMOS sensor. The CCD
sensor makes better pictures at night.

Cameras with CCD sensors often have a PRO or PROFFESIONAL in their name.

Tip: use WebCAM Watson for long time obserations.
