A friend of mine and I are trying to figure out how to set up some simple 
games on the web that we can play each other competitively online.  There is 
obviously a ton of online gaming out there, so where is the first place to 
look to figure out how to do this kind of thing ourselves? We don't have a 
game in mind yet if that matters.

Are you trying to use a java based game or something like HalfLife where you 
can get your own server....not sure what your wanting here.
