In article <3s4r1m$d29@news-4.csn.net>, Bruce Ediger <bediger@teal.csn.net> wrote: | Isn't there a persistent rumor to the effect that if you looked in | the MS-DOS 1.0 files (COMMAND.COM and those two other magical files) | for printable strings, you could find "(C) 198x, Digital Research"? | | Can someone confirm or deny this? If any part of the code was copyright DR this notice would appear. The original operating system was written by one person (who's name I forget but have somewhere), at Seattle Computer Systems, as a way to sell their 8086 processor boards for the IEEE-488 (S-100) bus. They also sold memory and disk controller cards. The o/s was made to look a lot like CP/M-80 (from DR) and was sold by Seattle Comp. as "QDOS," the quick and dirty operating system. -- Stupidity, like virtue, is its own reward. Bill Davidsen (davidsen@tmr.com) consultant/director TMR does UNIX and other systems stuff, some real time, network and system admin, security, C and other good stuff.
