(from electronics) TurboTax used to be great, but the 2002 version invades your hard drive with a system called C-Dilla to facilitate their new activation process that, not only hides itself in places on your hard drive where it cannot be easily erased, hidden in unpartitioned space after the boot record, but it installs three new drivers into Device Manager with associated processes that constantly run in the background, even when you're not running TurboTax, and that don't even go away when you uninstall TurboTax! They've just now come out with an uninstaller that removes most of the remnant files, but it still hasn't fixed problems for many people. I have no problem with product activation. A company has the right to protect its hard work creating a product by preventing people from passing it around without paying, but to do so by using background processes and hidden drivers that continue to bog down your system even after you uninstall the program (and even when you run their new C-dilla uninstaller, after which the three drivers STILL remain in Device Manager) is offensive. Bottom line, get TaxCut or taxact instead. Your computer will thank you.

The impact on your computer performance is minimal. It sounds like a mountain out of a mole hill to me. There is an uninstaller you can use to remove the C-Dilla software after you are done with Turbo Tax.

I can't even get it to run on my WIndows ME machine. I've un-installed the program, rebooted, run their "total uninstaller" and it thinks the program is still installed. I have spent the better part of 2 DAYS trying to uninstall it, got charged twice by Intuit, still have a non-working piece of software. THe "Go Back" utility kills it. I am convinced that their online "chat" tech support is not a human. It's an A.I. program designed to answer "common questions". I will NEVER EVER buy another product from Intuit!!!!! If I were to charge them my hourly rate for the time I've spent trying to get the thing working, then trying (still unsuccessfully) to un-install the "product", they'd owe me bigtime. TELL EVERYONE to AVOID TURBOTAX LIKE THE PLAGUE!!!!!!!!! JD in COlorado

See: <http://www.extremetech.com/print_article/0,3998,a=36813,00.asp>, especially the section subtitled "We Uncover Low-Level Monkey Business". Notwithstanding that this is a _system_ area, and none of ANY app's business to monkey around with, contemplate the likely result if/when you install a _second_ "C-Dilla"-infested app. For this same reason, it can also interefere with some "BIOS overlay" utilities used to support upgraded HDDs on older systems -- creating a HUGE mess in the process.
