Hello. I am looking for recommendations for a barcode scanner (hardware and software) for a Palm Pilot. Of course the smaller, the better. Do any exist at this time that plug into the slot? Any and all help and associated links are appreciated. Thanks in advance, Mike

You might look at the Symbol units - barcode scanner built in. -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Free software - Baxter Codeworks www.baxcode.com ------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Mike" <replyto@newsgroupsonly.com> wrote in message news:5BNV9.34806$Jm2.20974@news.bellsouth.net... > Hello. Symbol even makes some Palm OS devices with integrated barcode scanners that work very well. They also have links to developers that are making applications for their scanners. There is another barcode scanner for Palm's out there, but I don't remember the manufacturer or models it works with. On the software side, there applications like pocket register and pocket inventory, and some of the databases that work with barcode scanners. Symbol also has a free software developement kit and information available. Most developement tools for Palm can access the scanner with the information provided. I have a Symbol 1500 (basically a Palm III with built in scanner) that is great for inventories, etc. JT

-For the TrgPro or HandEra 330, the Socket In-hand laser barcode CF cards or even their CF wand scanners, can be used (not an inexpensive item). -For bluetooth devices this may be an option http://www.baracoda.com/market/anglais/market_pencil_A.html -The are plenty of cheap serial based wand scanners, and even options like the cue cat scanners if you can still find them. The trick has always been the driver. The happy hacking cradle had such a driver, beyond that it gets a little dicey. -Another approach if you don't have too many codes to scan is the CPEN, http://www.cpen.com/Products/Portable/p1 It's a standalone unit that can scan a barcode and then beam it to a PDA via IR.

In addition to the Symbol units etc already mentioned, there is a company in Australia who make scanner units that attach to most of the newer Palm handhelds. The company is called Gripon - www.gripon.com, and you can see the Palm units here - http://www.gripon.com/category14_1.htm. On the software side of things they have a compatibility library available that emulates the Symbol API's - so you don' t have to re-work if you have existing code. Cheers, Gavin. The Symbol units that I have been using are the SPT1847, they are able to communicate wirelessly on a Spectrum 24 network and have built in barcode scanners. These units are slick: however quite pricey. Checkout what Symbol has to offer! Nathan "Mike" <replyto@newsgroupsonly.com> wrote in message news:5BNV9.34806$Jm2.20974@news.bellsouth.net... > Hello.
