Need help - VFSFileOpen

According to the documentation and the sample code I've reviewed,
VFSFileOpen() requires the full path to the files on the external Memory
Card. The documentation recommends that you store your data in a directory
hierarchy as follows:
 /Palm/Programs/<myApp>/<filename>
with possible further subdirectories.

The problem I've run into is that the full path required by VFSFileOpen
*appears* to be limited to 32 characters - hardly conducive to long
filenames and/or extended subdirectories when you allow for the
"/Palm/Programs/<myApp>/". I've found nothing in the documentation about
this limit.

Is there indeed a 32-char limit? Or am I missing a step in opening the
file?
