Does anyone know where to get Muni or other SF Bay Area transit schedules
formatted to put on a Palm Pilot or a newer Palm device?

Note real email: mmedson at att dot net.

Thanks.

I'm told that this is something being worked on by the people at
transitinfo.org, but it's a low priority for them.

Transitinfo doesn't even have up to date muni schedules (except 108) for
PCs!

There is a site that has a real time map of a part of the Muni street
car system and the 22 Filmore bus line. Eventually its supposed to cover
all of Muni.

I'm pretty sure they have a wireless version. I know they have a
(woefully inadequate) cell phone/messaging system for this. Yo dial a
prearranged number for a particular stop into your cell phone, hang up
after it rings, then wait for a text message telling you when the next
bus will come. The message usually comes in less than a minute but I've
had a delay of 12 hours before. :/

You can find them at http://www.nextbus.com .

Well what if the schedule is a scanned .BMP or .JPG? Will avantgo
display pictures? (I didn't think so just asking...)

Boy, I'm confused about all of this. What I've been doing is going to
the muni online schedules, saving them as htm files, opening them in
Word; doing multiple search and replaces to delete the multiple spaces
between the columns and replace them with tabs; then converting the whole
deal to a table; then converting the table to an Excel doc; then
importing the doc into Docs to Go from Dataviz. I haven't found any other
way to display a doc on my Palm that's wider than the screen (i.e., a doc
where I can scroll horizontally). If anyone has another idea/method
PLEASE let me know. What I'm doing not only is a pain, but seems a bit
insane.

I looked there, and aside from the interactive BART schedule, I couldn't
find anything relevant. Can you give me a hint as to what category to
look under? Sorry for being dense.

Have you tried using the iSilo HTML converting tool?
http://www.isilo.com/
By the way, are all MUNI drivers still deranged?

I tried iSilo, and it doesn't properly convert html tables that are wider
than the Palm screen . . . or at least I can't figure out how to make it
do that. Thus far, as I said before, the only solution I've hit upon is
to convert the html screens to Excel screens and then use a Palm
spreadsheet display program, but that's a realy pain.

Not all MUNI drivers are deranged these days. Plenty of the passengers
are, however.

One trick I do for these schedules is to:
1. Copy from the html page and paste to a text file (stuff.txt)
2. Import that text file into Excel, using whitespace as a delimiter
3. Using simple macros in Excel to clean up all the blank spaces, rearrange
columns,
change the times to a consistent format (6:02 AM to 0602a, etc.)
4. Then download to palm format.

By doing all the macros in Excel, I can remember them as well as save them.

I've searched your original post and NOWHERE did you stipulate that these
suggestions had to be quick, easy OR, for that matter, sane. Do you want to
solve this problem using your Palm Pilot or do you want to be practical? The
entire point of this exercise is to justify owning the pricey little buggers
in the first place. Yours is just another fun way of using something that's
typically WAY too small to do what we try to do with it anyway.

cuz

Pushing the envelope with my palm. Whatta concept.
