an IDEA for PDA's
#241
Author: David Abraham

Ideas are cheap, ideas are not patentable, only expressions or instances of
an idea are protectable under the laws of Intellectual Property.

OK, folks, I have an IDEA, an idea that combines a handheld-type device,
some extra hardware, and some software. I estimate that the nation-wide
revenues of such a package of hardware / software would be between $25MM and
$1 MMM in three years, and more if it is marketed internationally. The cost
of implementation ought to be negligible.

But the catch is: I won't talk to anyone, like Palm or Handspring, about my
idea, because they won't talk to me without my revealing my idea, and they
won't sign a legal agreement promising to keep my idea secret and / or to
negotiate with me if they want to implement my idea.

So, I'm looking for interest in an idea I won't even hint at here, interest
from someone who has the clout or connections to implement it. What's in it
for you: part of the pie, of course. What's the down-side? You waste five
minutes talking with me.

BTW, I live in New York City and I am a professional software developer. If
you live close by, it will be easiest to get together.

Ever hear of a business plan? Put a coherent plan regarding markets,
revenues, competition and costs with solid milestones and deliverables on
paper and go after venture capital. Good luck at getting anyone with
money and/or market access to sign a non-disclosure agreement. If you
want money or market access from someone else for your idea, you have to
work by their terms.

It looks like you have an "expression" of an idea with specific
implementation on a PDA with hardware and software.
You can patent this... make notes with dates.
You then get to spend a lot of money on lawyers filing and defending your
patent.

"Anyone who's ever taken a shower has had a great idea." - Nolan Bushnell

Good luck.

Why is that folks come up with their best ideas while in the shower?
Maybe employers should start putting shower stalls in cubicles and
offices. :)

Or maybe more of us should telecommute (like me, who sometimes takes a
shower just to solve a problem).

What is your idea......to make an edible PDA? Tasty.

No really, what is it? Is it like one of those things you see in
ghostbusters which Egon used to use....which tracked ghosts? Wow
that's so cool, better patent that right away

Well, I heard that people come up with their best ideas while sitting on
the porcelain throne, not in the shower.

The idea is not to take a shower, imho, but to walk... it activates some
kind of energetic circulation in the body that helps us think... or so I
read anyway... but I find it to be rather true...

No, no--the shower is essential. It ensures that you're far away from
writing materials, so you can't write down your brilliant ideas as they
occur to you. In the worst case, you've forgotten them by the time
you've dried yourself.

Hmm I find both idea-llistic (lol)- When yr in the shower you cant reach
for your Palm to write down your idea, and when you're jogging/walking,
your PDA is probably a few k's away, and by the time you get home you're
too tired to remember it.

I constantly find myself looking at something and saying, "hey, I thought
of that idea ages ago"- anyone else? :)

Cheers,

Hey, maybe his idea is a PDA on a gyroscopic base that one can ride to
work - a Segway PDA?

I have my best ideas just when I'm about to fall asleep; or when, for
some reason, I wake up in the middle of the night. That ensures that
I'm too sleepy to do anything to record the idea, and that if I do
reach for the Palm and write it down, I worry about not getting enough
sleep and not being able to function in the morning.

Bicycling also seems to work for me; and again, if I'm riding along at
15mph, I wouldn't want to stop in traffic and pull out the Palm to
record the idea. Ah well.
