Hi people. I need to pick a language and tools for a project. There is a user interface and data processing application that resides on a notebook. The notebook connects to a microcontroller with code written in C. The notebook might turn into a Palm device in the future. I've been wanting to use Borland CPP Builder for a long time now. I recently went to a bookstore to get get a "Learn it, not really, in 14 days" book. I found about 3 for BCPPB, but about 300 for Microsoft VCPP. Is CPP Builder dying out ? Does anyone have any suggestions for the selection of a language for the project ? I am leaning towards C/C++ because it is portable, kind of, across all three platforms: laptop, embedded micro and Palm. The best compiler I see for the project is the GNU GCC, but the learning curve seems really steep and we will have rookies on the project and there is no visual aspect to GCC that I can see. Help ! Someguy

No, it's just that BCB IDE is about 100 times easier to use than VC++. > Does anyone have any suggestions for the selection of a language for the > project ? No, GCC is a compiler. BCB is a compiler + IDE + RAD tool. There's a bunch of editors that provide C++ IDE -- ultraedit, mutiedit, emacs, etc., that you can use with GCC. RAD part of BCB uses VCL -- Visual Component Library. VCL is not available for PalmOS AFAIK, so you can't use that anyway.
