You don't have to be mad to post on Usenet,
but it certainly helps.

I'm up to 170 copies. Pain in the neck when I d/l from home on the
modem. I log on via webmail first and delete them all.

Anyone know how to configure the latest netscape to post a fake address
in newsgroups while using the real one for email?

A better question would be "is anyone *not* having trouble with them".

I've not received one. I had to download an example to test my AV.
My real email addy has never appeared in Usenet headers, apart from
2 or 3 times last year.

I got the email this morning. Deleted it with MailWasher.
Couldn't add it to the blacklist, though.
When you say you were hit 1000 times, do you men you received 1000
emails or had hits on your firewall?
I have been getting around 3000 of those per day. Bigpond said it is
the Blaster virus.

All that means is that you are not very popular: your address is not
in a large number of address books or otherwise in files on infected
machines. One of my addresses is like that, but I never use it for
anything.

Hi:

Yes I am getting that and getting many other posts and "retunrned mail" messages. I Have
checked and rechecked my system and its clean, so it must be from someone else.

Nothing much I can do is there?

I've accumulated hundreds. It's the worst spam-attack I've ever had.
I wonder why my Hotmail address is unaffected, however.

My tally seems to be about 60 Microsoft Patch e-mails per day. I am using
56k dial-up because there is no broadband service here. I'm wondering if
people experiencing daily hits in the thousands are on broadband connectons?
Maybe my slow phone line is strangling some of the "Microsoft Patch" traffic.
If so, GOODY!

On second thought, forget I just said that. The phone line has nothing do to with
the speed or amount of traffic coming into the mail POP server where all the
messages are piling up.

Silly me.

They don't need to know your address....their bots shotgun the 'net
with computer generated addresses. Millions per day. they only need a
few hits on existing addresses to make it worth their while. They,
already, have lists of genuine domains. Best defence is a user name so
silly, even a computer wouldn't dream it up. :)

Not in this case. Swen appears to get it's addresses from recent
Usenet post headers.

I can use any name I want with my sub-domain. What little spam I
get is only to a name I once used for a few NG posts last year.
I get no viruses by email at all.

Yeah....I went back and read it all again. I was talking "spam" in the
advertising sense. Too quick on the keyboard, I am afraid.

Actually, not. I've gotten a few spam emails that had "group" headers
with multiple names in them, and it was really obvious that it was a
randomizer (there was no user cirbx or cirbz on the system at the time,
but the email was addresses to them, too, as well as about a dozen on
either side of my username).

They pretty much stopped doing this because it's, well, stupid. You can
get millions of email addresses in much more reasonable ways.

No, it was "real" spam. Plain old text email. Ad for a sex site.

No viral/worm payload.

It was also a couple of years ago, before Gibe hit the world.

I'm still getting 15-20 a day. Advertising ones...with addresses
around mine.
Only had the "MS" email once as far as I know.

What's the thing thats hitting my firewall 5-6 times a minute? Port135
if I remember correctly....BigPond says it is Blaster.???
Had over 2000 today.
