McAfee BellSouth DSL Conflict?

Hello,

My BellSouth DSL willnot run with the McAfee Fire Wall on.

Does anyone have this problem or know anything about it?

Is there a configuration on McAfee for this Problem:
If i start up The BellSouth DSL first; then second, the
McAfee Fire Wall, i can usually get the BellSouth DSL
to run for about 5 minutes. If i try to start the
BellSouth DSL while the McAfee Fire Wall is on,
The BellSouth DSL willnot sart up at all.

The McAfee Fire Wall log is often saying, "Blocked
A Port Scan Attack", also it Blocks incoming and
outgoing TCP a lot, then finally after about 5
minutes of this, the DSL just quits all together.

Why is it "a bad thing" for TCP's to be coming in
an out - what do they do that is "bad" (Violation)?

Does anyone know how to configure McAfee of BellSouth
DSL around to stop his problem?

Yesterday at Best Buy, they told me McAfee isnot
configured for DSL, but is configured only for
dial-up. Is this a popular opinion or a fact?

I donot have this problem with my mom-n-pop
dial-up ISP as you can see.

you are just an idiot. if you configure it correctly it will work. if you
are you it will not work because you cannot get it through your head that
DSL is not the problem it's the configuration of the firewall.

go away

If this is right, then you may just be able to change the configuration
of the firewall. Open it and find out if there is a more-appropriate
option (anything about broadband, cable, DSL, or WAN should be good).

Pamini,

The following is an excerpt from Network Associates Website regarding its
McAfee Firewall ASaP program:

Transparent, Around-the-Clock Traffic Monitoring
Ideal for always-on connections like cable modem and DSL lines, McAfee
Desktop Firewall ASaP offers round-the-clock management of your system by
blocking unauthorized network access and stopping known hacks, nukes,
Trojans, and DOS attacks. As a gatekeeper, McAfee Desktop Firewall ASaP
works transparently to block all non-trusted traffic 24 hours a day, whether
you are at your computer or not.

This excerpt was taken from the site link:
http://www.mcafeeb2b.com/services/desktop-firewall-asap.asp

This is proof that McAfee's firewall is designed for DSL and Cable modems.
So, to answer your question the person at Best Buy who told you that
McAfee's firewall program wasn't configured for DSL didn't know what he was
talking about.

The term TCP refers to a protocol that is combined with another protocol
that is the basis for the conventionally utilized communications protocol
TCP/IP used world-wide via the Internet. TCP stands for Transmission
Control Protocol and the IP portion of this combined protocol is Internet
Protocol. Firewall programs block Internet traffic (via TCP/IP) through
various ports within your PC. As programs attempt to access the Internet or
Internet applications attempt to access your PC, these ports allow for the
transferrence of data in and out. This is what the message is referring to.
I suspect that you need to configure McAfee to work properly with your DSL
modem is why you're having problems.

May I suggest another software firewall program that I use that I consider
to be superior to any I've seen with the possible exception of Norton
Internet Firewall. This program is ZoneAlarm from www.zonelabs.com .
Version 2.61 is a free download. I use it consistently with my Alcatel
External Ethernet Modem and have no problems whatsoever.

Hope this helped you out.

Suggest you read the comments at following URL - they are not good
words about McAfee Firewall DSL. Suggest you download ZonaAlarm
freebie which seems to work great
