I have partitioned my disk and have 95 on C and NT on D and E. Recently for some unknown reason 95 stopped booting. When I booted NT and ran a disk check on C with options to 'Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors', the result was the disk check ate up all my free space and disk showed '0 bytes available'. I cleared space from C, repeated above process and it kept eating up free space and making it bad sectors. Now all file space occupied on a 1.5 GB partition on C is about 300MB only, the rest is all converted to bad sectors by the disk check program. Now I wonder what is going on, is it possible that suddenly almost the whole disk is bad sectors? is this a virus which is showing everything as bad sectors? I could boot once in 'safe mode' on 95 and I ran disk de-fragmentor, it shows the disk map while it goes along de-fragmenting, and it was obvious there that most of the disk is of bad-sectors!!!! What is going on here? I am scared to run disk check on my other partitions. I have also applied McAfee version 4.0 on C and it shows no virus. C is FAT D and E are NTFS please help!!!

If you plan to format your HDD use format C: /C With "/C" swich you tell to re-check bad sectors. It is absolutely the best at restoring bad sectors to usable condition if it can be done. If Spinrite can not repair the disk then you can be 99 & 44/100 percent certain that the disk has suffered physical damage and needs to be replaced. Be sure to check for any warranty coverage. Many drives have a 3 year or longer manufacturer's warranty. Good luck. Ron Martell Duncan B.C.
