Would having a Mac with Virtual PC running on it be a lot slower than using
an IBM PC, as this would allow me to have the best of both worlds...???

It depends on which Mac you are running on. I have it on my 266
iMac and it's pretty good running Win95/Novell netware.

I also use an iMac 266, and Virtual PC works fairly well on most
brand name (read that as M$oft) office-type software. However, I
have found the speed reduction on some games that I play is only
equal to about a 486-66, and the sounds are NOWHERE near the same.
I use MSDOS a lot, and there is simply no substitute for a bonafide
PC for the applications and games I have. Yet, the software and
games written for iMac just runs rings around the PC, and never had
a hangup.

I have a 23 Mhz IMac running 92 Meg RAM and VPC running under Windows 98. I
calculate that Windows runs at 100-110 Mhz

No, he bought a "special" iMac from "Sybil", (you know, the polynomous
poster from Melbourne). It was a great deal: 2 days warranty and he was
ASKING ONLY $2000 + COD.......:)

How do you calculate this? I ran WinBench on my VPC (64M memory
partition) and it only gave about a 70HMz result. I'm only running a
(now very) ancient G3/266 desktop but it seems a lot lower than your
result.

Cheers
Graham

Remember, if you quit the finder after running VPC (use an applescript)
you will get heaps better performance for applications that you need
performance.
