My second HDD in my system is a Quantum 40.0GB 7200rpm ATA100. I am
currently having controller problems (I believe) so I can't use my
system. Though I have only had experience with Quantum, I can't fault
them. They are also quite reliable and fast. You can probably pick
this one up for a similar price to the Maxtor the guy above suggests
as well. I think the modle is the Fireball plus AS.

I like the Western Digital drives. One of the best. If you don't like that
try Fujitsu.

I'd stick with IBM. They are the fastest IDE drives available, and are
extremely reliable. I've had a good deal of trouble with Maxtor drives, a
few died and more than a few make odd noises during normal operation. I now
use IBM or Western Digital if it's a tight budget. Through the years of
building systems for people I've had 4 Maxtor drives die during normal use
within a year or so, and have had one DOA IBM 14GXP. A few 6.4 gig WD drives
died on me, but after 3 replacements WD acknowledged there was a problem
with that specific model and sent me an 8 gig to replace it, which has
worked flawlessly.

Seagate drives are good quality, fast and reliable.

Can't tell you much about this drive but IBM drives in general are great. I
have 4 75GXPs: two 45 GB (RAID 0), 75 GB and a 30 GB in one computer and
they worked really well for over a year under intense use.

I would have recommended the IBM's if I didn't have recent troubles with two
of the exact same drive you mention..hell I've still got one in my computer
now.

Try Maxtor/Quantum.

I have been having occasional read/writer errors with this type of drive
(about 3 problems in 1 year). Norton Utilities was able to fix the problem
by remapping the bad sector. It is fast but I would be wary buying this
model.

The main label on the top said they're made in Hungary.
There was a label on the underside of the IDE connector block however
that said the assembly was made in the Czech Republic.
