Hello, A few days ago I have a 32 Meg SDRAM module come in. I plugged it into my Micro-Star MS5129 and flicked the switch... oh dear... it only registers as a 16 meg dimm. Having experienced this problem before (I've built hundreds of PCs) I just went into the BIOS and saved settings again to 'refresh' it (some BIOS' have been known to need that done for RAM to be recognized correctly). Power it up again, same problem.. not I started to get angry. Either my RAM was junk, or I was ripped off. 'I paid for a 32, and I got a 16' I thought. Then I figured it's probably my motherboard that doesn't like the RAM, but if it didn't like it, why did it even register 16? Usually a system will simply not boot if it doesn't like the RAM. Anyways, I took another 32 meg SDRAM DIMM from another computer and my MS5129 recognized that easily as 32 megs. This is what I use now, but I want my other DIMM in there. The chips onboard have the following printed on them: MT C2M8A1 -10 s Basically, it's a Micron chip, but it has 'PowSys, made in USA' printed on the circuit board. Also, there is a small chip at the top of the module above Pin 84. What is this chip for?? My other DIMM does not have it. I've only found this number registered at Micron sites as being on a 16 meg PC-100 DIMM, yet the technitian I bought it from confirms it's for regular Pentium systems. My MS5129 uses the 430VX chipset, and only recognizes the module as being 16 megs. My other board, 586ITBD uses the 430TX chipset and it recognizes the module as 32. Please fill me in on the exact specs of this MT 48LC2M8A1 -10 s module I have. It's very annoying not knowing exactly what I bought. what is that small additional chip, is it an ECC chip? -Any- information would be greatly appreicated. Thank you, - Andrew P.S, please send e-mail responses
