Hard drive problem

I am trying to help a friend install a hard drive in a system with a IBM
200+ ( Cyrix ). The problem is that the drive which is a Maxtor 1.2 GB hard
drive and the CMOS when trying to auto detect is telling me that it is 9945
in size instead of 1260. The drive did work properly before but now seems to
be misrepresenting the size in autodetect. I have been to Maxtors homepage
and there are no troubleshooting tips that relate to this type of
problem.... HELPP!!!!!!!!

the problem is the bios and how old it is, it may not regonise the drive
properlly and the best thing to do is make sure that anything over 1.gig has
LBA next to the figures it comes up with....

I had a computer that I had a 6.5 gig HD to and the bios would not recognise
the drive unless it had some sort of overlay from the manufacturer
installed.

have you tried entering in the drive info as a user defined? if that
won't help, I don't know unless there is a program that maxtor is using
similar to the ones supplied by seagate on some of their drives. (in the
early days, you copied the info to a floppy disk then loaded it on as a
utils tool after the drive was formatted)
