Hi

I have a Compaq Presario 7400 which , according to the manual, should be
able to play DVD and accept CD-WR.

When these types of discs are inserted my PC cannot recognise anything in
the drive CD drive.   Accepts other CDs  eg music CDs and installation CDs
such as Word2000 and son.

Any ideas/suggestions.

have you installed the software that supports dvd and cdrw?

    Is it a DVD combo drive ie plays DVDs and CDs and records to CDs (not
DVDs)? Go into device manager and see how it's listed.
