hey! i have a computer at the school i work at that is really really slow... the pc itself is a 300mhz cyrix II processor with 160mb ram running win98. The computer seems to get through cmos at normal speed but takes ages to boot into windows and then is really slow using it. This is also the case in safe mode. I've scanned for viruses to no avail... was wondering if it could be the hard-drive access that was the problem?? (2gig IDE.) Any ideas at all? I'm a bit stumped.

Hit Control, Alt, Delete to see what programs are running. TSR programs like Anti-virus and fire wall protection running in the background are usually the culprits. Also, check what's loading up at start up and disable any programs you don't need to be running at start up. A defrag also might help. Bville

Go into Outlook and select tools, options and then the journal tab. Make sure the items in the bottom box are not ticked, or your Outlook will be making copies of everything you do, which considerably slows up opening, closing and saving documents etc. -- Patricia spam@coves.demon.co.uk Replace Spam with ngs) The From address is NOT valid.
