Monitor problem...

I just bought a 2nd hand COMPAL 14" digital monitor (made
in 1997) and it works ok, but the problem is that the "black"
isn't "black" !! Its GRAY (or grey if you prefer ;-)

Any ideas how I can fix this or what could be causing it? I've
spent a couple of hours fiddling with the colour, contrast and
brightness controls, but still nothing...

Is there likely to be a simple fix that I can do myself (maybe
with a soldering iron) ?

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Mark

Digital monitor, 1997. Hmm, I are you sure ?

Grid control, and/or Gun Voltage (~80-110VDC supply).

Hmm, I hope you marked all the pots, beforehand...

Well, you don't say how electronicially competent you are. I suppose,
you've lived thus far... :)

Basically, look for the grid voltage control, usually on the EHT, along
with the Focus control. If that doesn't fix it, or doesn't have enough
"range", then it's likely to be the High Voltage supply, usually between
80-110VDC, or maybe even the brightness circuitry.

If none of that makes sense, then either live with it, or get someone who
does, to fix it. Much too dangerous for novices.
