Yeah, I had this exact same problem when I switched to a new motherboard.
Even thought my soundcard was stuffed, but turned out okay.  No need to pull
out the cards - what I did to fix it was to start in safe mode, disable all
the hardware devices in setup, then enable em all one at a time, rebooting
each time.  You have to add em in a certain order, starting with the IDE
controllers etc.  Then it seems everything gets found and allocated properly.
There's more detailed info on the Microsoft site, but good luck finding it!
